The artist Pontus Kjerrman was born in 1954 and grew up in Göteborg, Sweden. In 1979 he moved to Copenhagen, Denmark to study at Billedhuggerskolen, The Royal Academy of Fine Arts and he remained there as a student until 1985. Between 1981 and 1984 he was also an apprentice in the stucco craft. This combination of artisthood and craftsman proved to be succsesful and in 1985 he became senior teacher at Billedhuggerskolen.
He soon developed a personal style, distinguished for him. With his both real and unreal art he has created a style of his own that brings to mind the idea of fairytales. His figures, with a few exceptions, have the body movements of a human but the feet, the hands, the head and other typical parts in the form of an animal. Specific for his art is the man in the shape of a horse; earth-bound and hard-working, and the women in the shape of a cat, wishing to remain on its own. She often has wings and tries to fly away from the man that binds her to the earthly life.
